Ajamie LLP won a jury trial in Laredo, Texas on a civil RICO Act claim on behalf of our client, ADT Security Services, S.A. de C.V., against a wealthy Mexican defendant. Following a 2 1/2 week trial, the jury found that the defendant committed the RICO predicate act offenses of extortion, wire fraud, and witness tampering. Liability was assessed at $36,016,226, which resulted in a judgment of $108,048,678 after mandatory trebling under 18 U.S.C. 1964(c). With prejudgment interest the total award in favor of the firm’s client is $112,119,005. The jury’s verdict is the largest civil RICO verdict in United States history.
