No one wants a crook to make off with his life savings. Tom Ajamie, managing partner of Ajamie LLP in Houston, has written his first book to help people protect themselves: “Financial Serial Killers: Wall Street Money Hustlers, Swindlers, and Con Men.” Written with financial journalist Bruce Kelly, the book is scheduled for publication in early August. It shares horror stories that have unfolded when the unscrupulous meet the vulnerable. As a novice to the book-publishing world, Ajamie says he got a jump on the publishing business by pairing with Kelly.

Kelly had reported on Ajamie in the past and, over a dinner in New York, told Ajamie about the idea for the book. They discussed its timeliness, given the spate of recent investment scandals. Ajamie says Kelly then secured a publisher and distributor. From contract to completion, Ajamie says, the 308-page book took six months. Ajamie split the writing tasks 50-50 with Kelly, about 150 pages each. "I just worked late nights and weekends. It wasn't hard, since I'm used to writing legal briefs. And now at least more than two people, the judge and the opposing side, will read what I wrote," Ajamie says.
